TB PAN-NET (www.tbpannet.org) is the acronym given to a major European translational research consortium of 27 partners funded by the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7) and that will be running for 60 months from January 2009 with the aim to address the challenge of multidrug- resistant tuberculosis (MDR- TB) that faces Europe by establishing a network of expert partners who possess extensive experience in the conduct of basic and clinical research related to MDR-TB, TB control and molecular epidemiology.

TBnet has been commissioned to implement workpackage 6 of the TB PAN-NET project. The main objectives of the workpackage are:

• To coordinate clinical TB research in Europe.
• A unified clinical data base collecting data on MDR/XDR patients referring to the major clinicians and centres will be established with a database manager collecting detailed documentation and
• analysis of patient' risk factors and clinical outcomes associated with the development of MDR/XDR-TB in different parts of Europe.

TBnet would like to encourage all physcians and institutions, caring for patients with MDR/XDR TB, to get involved in this important project. Data are collected prospectively and retrospectively in a internet - based database, with a strong focus on clinical information about MDR/XDR patient care.

For any questions related to the project please contact G.Günther (gguenther@fz-borstel.de) or C.Lange (clange@fz-borstel.de).
